    ANDREW SNOW

    From a Student Perspective

    SUPA Goes To Budapest

Editor's Note: Andrew Snow is highlighting a student initiative of which he is part.
Problem: How to you get a delegation of Australian pharmacy students across toEurope on the traditional student budget?
It is obviously important for Australia to be represented at this type of conference, so are there any generous benefactors out there willing to provide support?

Welcome everyone once more to the student's world!
Don't worry, I won't keep you here for too long……

Presently, SUPA is attempting to send several students over to Budapest for the International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation (IPSF) national conference. IPSF was formed in 1949 with Australia as one of the seven founding member countries. IPSF has now grown to represent over 300,000 pharmacy students and young pharmacists in 65 member countries. After a twelve year absence from the federation, Australia rejoined at the 47th IPSF Congress in Cairo, conducted in August last year. Following Australia's readmission to the federation, SUPA is looking forward to the opportunity to promote Australia's active involvement in the organisation.

The 48th IPSF Congress is to be held from 21st July to 2nd August in Budapest. As SUPA is the largest and oldest pharmacy student association in Australia, representing over 600 student members, the committee believe that participation in this important international event will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about issues facing both the profession and pharmacy students worldwide. SUPA will use the experience gained through participation in the congress to not only meet the academic and professional needs of the students at the University of Sydney, but also to support IPSF projects internationally. Last year SUPA raised money for the Neema Concept Village Project in Tanzania.

Presently there are no Australians registered to attend this year's congress. Through financial support, it will be possible to further Australia's participation in the Federation. SUPA are intending to send a five person delegation of students from various stages throughout their degree course. Registration for the congress costs 500 euro (approx $A900), and a return airfare to Budapest costs around $2200.

SUPA would greatly appreciate support that anyone would be able to offer, or even names of people that we could contact. Should you have any questions regarding the IPSF congress please do not hesitate to call the SUPA office on 02-95521299 or visit the IPSF website at http://www.ipsf.org
