    FIP Publication for September
    By Geoff Miller

The Australian Academy of the History of Pharmacy is aiming to
produce a small booklet to showcase Australian Pharmacy for distribution to FIP delegates in September.
Geoff Miller, the coordinator, is looking for authors to write about 2000 words, and a couple of pics to describe their type of pharmacy practice, and how it differs from the traditional practice in anglo-saxon middle class suburbia.
The article should reflect any extra training that has been undertaken and why the author was motivated to move into the chosen area.
Here is an opportunity to help spread the word about the whole range of pharmacy practices in this country.
Please contact me urgently (publishing soon) if you can help, or have any queries at:

First Impressions of a New Field Officer
    By Terry Irvine

Earlier this year I commenced training as a Field Officer with PSA NSW to assist pharmacists with the implementation of the Quality Care Pharmacy Program (QCPP).
Since then I have spoken to a number of pharmacists, and their staff, and have performed some Appraisal visits.

The impressions I have indicate that procrastination is alive and well in pharmacy!
Also, that the procrastinators use as an excuse the question of just how worthwhile the exercise is, particularly in the light of all the pressures they believe they are under, and that was before the Pan debacle!

However, when persuaded to think about it more they agree that the discipline of deciding on policies and protocols for situations that have not arisen, but might, such as armed robberies or dealing with shoplifters, could make these experiences less traumatic should they occur.
Add to this the usefulness of written procedures to be used in the owner's absence, or for training new staff, and they become more enthusiastic.

A reality check that the application of more business principles such as business plans and more comprehensive financial reporting means that which was once seen as a chore is now seen as a worthwhile objective.

Editor's Note: The QCPP support program is one a range of Practice Support programs developed and implemented by PSA (NSW) all of which primarily aim to assist pharmacists to implement changes to their practice as required by new initiatives such as QCPP and the newer remuneration for cognitive services such as delivery of CMI and HMR. PSA (NSW) has developed these programs to assist pharmacists in their endeavours to do one or many of these things.
